Dosage
Adult common dosage:
Orally, 250mg/ time, divided into 2-3 times/day. Adjust the dose every 2 days to achieve the desired effect.
Children's usual dosage:
Orally, 10mg/kg daily or 300mg/m2 according to body surface area, divided into two to four oral doses. Adjust the dose every 2 days to achieve the desired effect. The maximum dose should not exceed 65mg/kg or 3g/ day.
Adverse effect
1. Sedation, headache, and weakness occur more often than when medication is started and dosed, and are usually transient.
2. More common are: water and sodium retention caused by edema of the lower extremities, dry mouth.
3. Less common are: drug fever or eosinophilia, changes in liver function (possibly immune or allergic), mental changes (depression or anxiety, somnolence, insomnia), reduced sexual function, diarrhea, breast enlargement, nausea, vomiting, fainting.
4. Occasionally aggravating angina pectoris and heart failure.
Matters need attention
1. Because methyldopa is mainly excluded by the kidney, it should be used with caution in patients with renal insufficiency.
2. Patients who experience edema or weight gain while taking methyldopa may be treated with diuretics. Stop taking this product once edema progresses or there are signs of heart failure.
3. Patients with severe bilateral cerebrovascular disease should stop taking the medicine immediately if involuntary chorea occurs during the medication.
4. Use with caution for pheochromocytoma.
