FAQ

Q: What to avoid while taking acyclovir?

A: Alcohol should be avoided while taking acyclovir because it weakens the immune system and may exacerbate the side effects of acyclovir.

Q: How quickly do aciclovir tablets work?

A: Although there is no cure for herpes, a treatment like Aciclovir can help with outbreaks. Aciclovir tablets should be taken at the start of an outbreak. Symptoms can start to improve in 1 to 2 days and if taken early it may even prevent an outbreak.

Q: What should be monitored when taking acyclovir?

A: Therefore, patient variability in the safety and efficacy of acyclovir is significantly based on the patient's age and renal function, which requires careful monitoring. Renal impairment can dramatically increase the half-life of acyclovir, eg, up to 10 times.

Q: Can I brush my teeth after taking acyclovir?

A: Drink more liquids if your mouth becomes dry while using this medicine. Avoid chewing gums, touching or pressing the tablet after it is placed, wearing upper dentures, or brushing your teeth while using this medicine.

Q: Does acyclovir fight all viruses?

A: Acyclovir may also be used for other virus infections as determined by your doctor. However, it does not work in treating certain virus infections, such as the common cold. Acyclovir is available only with your doctor's prescription.

Q: Does acyclovir cause you to gain weight?

A: No, Acyclovir does not typically cause weight gain. Weight changes are not commonly reported with the use of Acyclovir. However, if you observe a weight gain during the medication course, you should seek advice from your consulting doctor.
