Cefazolin Sodium for Injection

This medicine contains the active substance cefazolin, which is an antibiotic. Cefazolin is used to treat bacterial infections caused by cefazolin-susceptible bacteria, e.g:

• Infections of skin and soft tissue

• Infections of bones and joints

Cefazolin sodium for injection can also be used before, during and after surgery to prevent possible infections.

1)Do not use Cefazolin Sodium for Injection:

- Under situation that you are allergic to cefazolin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

-Under situation that you are allergic to any cephalosporin antibiotics.

- Or you have ever had a severe allergic (hypersensitive) reaction to any other type of beta lactam antibiotic (like penicillins, monobactams and carbapenems).

2)Warnings and precautions of Cefazolin sodium for injection:

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Cefazolin Sodium for Injection if you:

• Are prone to allergic reactions (e.g. have fever or bronchial asthma), so there is risk of severe allergic reactions to Cefazolin is increased.

• Have had previously an allergic reaction to other beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g. penicillins), since then there is an increased risk of being allergic to Cefazolin too.

• Suffer through an injured funtction of kidney or liver.

• Suffer through disorders of blood clotting (like  haemophilia) or your present condition can lead to similar defects (e.g. parenteral feeding, malnutrition, liver or kidney diseases, reduction in blood platelets which will increase risk of bleeding or bruising [thrombocytopenia], medicines that prevent blood clotting [anticoagulants like heparin]) should be taken.

• Suffer through diseases which can cause bleedings (e.g. gastrointestinal ulcers).

• Suffer through severe persistent diarrhoea during or after treatment

with Cefazolin. In this case contact your doctor immediately. Do consult your doctor before taking any anti-diarrhoea medicine.
