Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Cyanocobalamin, the active form of vitamin B12, is safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, it should not be used to treat megaloblastic anemia of pregnancy unless a confirmed vitamin B12 deficiency is present.

Contra-indications and Warnings
Hypersensitivity: Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cyanocobalamin.
Diagnosis Confirmation: Treatment should not commence without confirming vitamin B12 deficiency as it may mask folate deficiency and vice versa.
Optic Neuropathy: Not to be used in patients with Leber's disease or tobacco amblyopia due to potential further degeneration.
Urine Discoloration: Cyanocobalamin may color the urine red.
Drug Interactions: Parenteral chloramphenicol may reduce the efficacy of vitamin B12 in anemia treatment.
Pharmacological Properties
Vitamin B12 is crucial for the formation of red blood cells and the maintenance of the nervous system. It plays a significant role in DNA synthesis and neurological function. A deficiency can lead to serious health issues, including pernicious anemia and neurological disorders.
Mechanism of Action
Vitamin B12 acts as a coenzyme in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine, a crucial process for DNA synthesis and red blood cell production. It is also involved in maintaining the myelin sheath of nerve cells, which is essential for proper neurological function.
Storage Instructions
Temperature: Store in a cool place, protected from light.
Shelf Life: Typically stable for up to 3 years under proper storage conditions.
Clinical Efficacy
The effectiveness of Vitamin B12 Injection in quickly restoring normal vitamin B12 levels and improving anemia symptoms makes it a critical treatment in managing deficiency-related conditions. Its ability to correct severe deficiencies, especially where oral supplementation is not feasible, underscores its therapeutic importance.
Packaging and Logistics
Vitamin B12 Injection is packaged in sterile ampoules to maintain product integrity and sterility. The logistics ensure temperature-controlled transportation and careful handling to preserve the injection's efficacy from manufacturing to delivery.
